Maitha Abdalla’s Gallery

Born in 1989, Maitha Abdalla is a multidisciplinary Emirati artist whose paintings, sculptures and performance pieces explore the themes of memory and travel. A graduate of Zayed University and Middlesex University, Abdalla was an artist in residence and fellow at the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, the Salama bint Hamdan Al Nahyan Foundation and the ADMAF Visual Arts Residency Programme, amongst others. She has had solo exhibitions in Abu Dhabi’s Warehouse421 and Dubai’s Tabari Art Space. Her work has also been exhibited within group exhibitions in London, Venice, Brussels and Sharjah. In 2015, Abdalla was the recipient of the Sheikha Manal Arts Award.

Inspired by the stories she grew up hearing, the young artist shares the inspiration behind three of her most memorable artworks, which are often described as ‘theatrical,’ in her gallery in the sky. The gallery is available for passengers onboard Emirates Airlines to view on its inflight entertainment, Ice, and on Etihad Airways’ inflight entertainment, E-Box.

The Khaleeji Art Museum partnered up with Art and Object, a fine art news website based in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, which provided media coverage of the Museum in the Sky’s first series. To read Maitha Abdalla’s interview with them, please click here.
